Celebrating 10 years as one of Hackney's premier electronic music stores Kristina approached me to collaborate on a range of merchandise to celebrate this landmark.
Throughout their ten years they have grown to become more than just sellers of transatlantic underground sounds but as a hub for a community of like minded souls with their regular in-store events and an expansion into coffee, beer and wine from local companies.
Their belief that "Music Is The Answer" was translated into a typographically lead design, emblazoned loud and proud on the back of premium, organic, ethically sourced tees and totes and promoted with a candid set of photos shot on a regular day outside the premises.
They see the value in community and helping out at a grass root level and so a portion of the profits from the sale of KR10 merchandise will be donated locally to Hackney Quest (London) and because they champion the sound rooted in Detroit they will donate to the Underground Music Academy in said city too.
“We’re delighted to still be part of the Hackney music scene after 10 years. It’s a privilege to do what we do. This moment gives us an opportunity to reinforce the importance of community and giving back to the source. Electronic music is so far reaching nowadays but it’s always been something that brings people together. We (KR) have a responsibility to carry forward this positive message. Over the years we’ve always maintained close ties with artists in Detroit, so supporting the Underground Music Academy is a no brainer for us. Locally, we’ve also worked closely with ‘We Are You’ to support Hackney Quest and will continue to do so…”
